Free STAR WARS Comics, 1960's Monster Mags, SPIDER-MAN Variants
Howdy!
As we anticipated, the incredible worldwide success of STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS
prompted a flurry of orders over this weekend for our exclusive
Mile High Comics STAR WARS (2015
variant editions. We also sold considerable quantities of the
other
STAR WARS,
DARTH VADER,
KANAN,
PRINCESS LEIA,
LANDO,
CHEWBACCA, and
VADER DOWN
variants we
stock, as well as a slew of the beautiful later printings of all of those titles.
What surprised us a little was how many of the Dark Horse
Star Wars titles also
sold, both as individual comics, and out-of-print trade paperback collections.
This is just the beginning of what promises to be a decades-long unfolding of
the new Star Wars mythos, and it has certainly started off great!
STAR WARS #39
On a related note, we had an extremely positive responses over the weekend to
my offer of free copies of Marvel's original
STAR WARS (1977) #39
(which presents the first installment of EMPIRE STRIKES BACK) and
MARVEL SUPER SPECIAL #27
(which presents the entire RETURN OF THE JEDI story). I offered a copy of the
comic book
as a free bonus item with any minimum $40 order, and the
MSS magazine
for
free with any minimum $100 order. We do still have copies of both the comic and
the magazine left to give away, but at their current pace, I anticipate that they
will all be gone by Wednesday.
MARVEL SUPER SPECIAL #27
Another trend from this past weekend was that quite a few fans from around the world
placed very large orders with us, with a few orders containing hundreds of individual
issues. I believe that this came about as a direct response to our annual
50% off HOLIDAY! codeword sale, which slashed all of our
back issue comics and magazines
prices in half. Selling particularly well were all of our
Silver and
Bronze Age comics,
as well as a variants of all kinds. We also had a slew of orders that focused on issues
that we list for
$2 each,
or less. All other considerations aside, with ten million of
our modern back issues now available at half price, our HOLIDAY codeword has transformed
our
website
into the largest dollar bin in the history of comics collecting!
I will close today's newsletter with an exceptionally generous offer on some 50 year
old magazines. To explain, in 1985, I purchased an immense collection of 2 million
comics and magazines from a bankrupt book wholesaler in New York. Among the magazines
that I purchased in that huge deal were over 100,000 monster mags, including various
issues of
FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND,
SHRIEK!,
MONSTERS AND HEROES, and
3-D MONSTERS.
We have sold thousands of copies of these magazines over the past 30 years, and they
have have been a steady source of income for us.
At this point, however, I have no choice but to slim down our inventory in anticipation
of our merging our two main warehouses together by March 31st. That having been said,
we have a large quantity of some of these vintage monster magazines left in stock, and
they do take up quite a bit of space. Blessedly, we received a very attractive offer
for all of them from a collectibles buyer's group over the weekend. Before I let them
go, however, I wanted to provide you with one last opportunity to purchase them, or to
receive them for free. My offer is very simple: place any minimum $40 order with us by
Thursday, and you can request any one of the magazines shown below for free. Place any
minimum $100 order, and you can request three different, or a $250 will allow you to
request ten different monsters magazines from below. The free copies we will send out will be in VG/Fine condition. A few
copies in higher grades will also be available for sale through our
website at bargain
prices. This offer is through Thursday, only, as we then have to pack them for shipment...

P.S. I almost forgot to mention that we do still have a couple of sets left of the
ultra-scarce
Alex Ross "B" set
of
SPIDER-MAN: RENEW YOUR VOWS
#5.
I'm reprinting
below my offer from Friday's newsletter. This offer expires the minute we run out,
or Wednesday at noon, whichever comes first.
AMAZING SPIDER-MAN: RENEW YOUR VOWS (2015) #5 QUESADA B SET
"Moving on to an amazing offer of some incredibly rare variant issues from the Marvel
Universe, our head new comics buyer, Will Moulton, was just able to obtain for us a
few copies of the two Joe Quesada "B" variants to
SPIDER-MAN: RENEW YOUR VOWS
#5. What
makes these two variants so significant is that they both feature Stan Lee on the cover,
and that they were unbelievably hard to obtain when they were first released. The
color variant
required a purchase by retailers of a minimum of 150 copies of the standard
edition of
SPIDER-MAN: RENEW YOUR VOWS #5,
while the
black and white edition
had a 250 copy!
minimum. Simply put, these variants are so scarce that the only place I have ever seen
them for sale was in Stan's booth, at October's
COMIKAZI convention.
AMAZING SPIDER-MAN: RENEW YOUR VOWS (2015) #5 QUESADA B SKETCH COVER
My offer to you on these
SPIDER-MAN: RENEW YOUR VOWS
variants is as follows: you can
help us to cover our out-of-pocket cost for these variants by purchasing the
color edition
for the bargain rate of only $49.95, or the scarcer
B&W edition
for $74.95.
Or, if you wish, you can order a
set of both variants
for only $99.95. OR, you can
obtain a set entirely for FREE as a reward for placing any minimum $500 order via
our
website
over this upcoming weekend. As was the case with our
Todd McFarlane prints,
however, we only have limited supplies on hand of these two ultra-rare variants.
All orders will be filled on a first-received basis. 'Nuff said."
