Local News - Auction and Poker On Saturday to Benefit Kids Christmas Fund
Howdy!
This Saturday we will be hosting a very important benefit event at
Mile High Comics
for the hundreds of children and teens served by
Rainbow Alley.
Rainbow Alley is an after school support group for kids here in Denver who are
gay, lesbian, transgender, or gender-questioning. Many of these kids have been alienated
from their birth families, and thus find themselves totally alone during Christmas. The
awesome members of the
Colorado Gay Rodeo Association
stepped into this holiday void several years ago by putting on a special potluck dinner
for the Rainbow Alley kids. I have personally helped CGRA serve food to the kids for the
past five years, and have watched this truly heartwarming event grow from helping just
30 kids in the first year, to over 200 children last year!
Auction Flyer
As a part of the holiday dinner, the staff of
Rainbow Alley
pass out small presents to each of the children. For many of these kids, that little token
of appreciation is the only holiday gift that they will receive this Christmas. That having
been said, our annual
Mile High Comics auction event
is the primary source of funding for the holiday presents that are given to the Rainbow Alley
kids attending the annual Christmas potluck dinner. We raised over $2,000 during the benefit
portion of our November comics and toys auction last year, and I hope that we can at least match
that number for 2018. If you at all can, please stop by
Mile High Comics Jason St.
this Saturday morning and help these abandoned kids have some holiday cheer. The auction preview
begins at 10 AM, with the first items coming up for bid at 11:30. It should continue until 2 PM.
If you can't attend our
auction
in person, please consider donating some items. We will gladly auction off any comics or collectibles
that you might be willing to contribute to this wonderful cause, with 100% of the proceeds going
directly into the Rainbow Alley Christmas Fund. We would also be delighted to pass on small holiday
gifts, such as backpacks or hoodies, as I am sure that the Rainbow Alley staff could find them good
homes. The goal here is to help these abandoned kids to find some holiday cheer, so any help that
you might be able to provide would be most sincerely appreciated.
Poker Flyer
I will close by quickly mentioning that tomorrow is also the date of our monthly
Texas Hold'em Poker Tournament.
Buy-in is only $25, with 100% of all revenues received going to the
Rainbow Alley
Christmas Fund. Game starts at 11 AM, but I encourage everyone who hasn't pre-registered to
arrive by 10:30. I believe in this cause so much that I personally donated $1,000.00 in Mile
High Comics gift certificates as the
tournament prizes...
Happy collecting!
