Neal Adams Comics Party on Thursday! Howdy! Neal Adams I am delighted to bring you the news today that comics legend, Neal Adams, has agreed to be the headliner at our Thursday evening Opening Night party for the Denver Comic-Con. Our party will be held from 5 PM - 11 PM at our Jason St. Mega-Store, 4600 Jason St., Denver. The Mega-Store is located right in the heart of Denver, with a warehouse district right where I-25 and I-70 meet. We are just two blocks south of the Pecos exit from I-70, and then two blocks east on 46th Ave. Our Mega-Store is built in the front 35,000 square feet of a massive 65,000 square foot warehouse building, located right where 46th ends. Having given you the good news about Neal Adams, I now need to express some cautionary notes. First, while we are expecting upwards of 2,000 people to attend our Thursday night event, we have a private parking lot that will only hold 40 cars. What that means is that everyone is going to have to find street parking somewhere nearby. We did a quick survey this afternoon, and we located at least another 200 street parking spots within three blocks of our Mega-Store, mostly on 46th Avenue, and one block over on Lipan, which is the street next to Jason. That having been said, if you are coming to our party we would ask that you please carpool with friends, if at all possible. Comics Area Under Construction My second cautionary note would be about obtaining Neal Adams autographs, original artwork, and sketches. Neal will be arriving at 5 PM, and staying through at least 11 PM, but he has only limited merchandise available. Time is also a consideration, so we will be giving out numbers for meeting Neal, and then announcing those numbers in groups of 20. This means that you will not have to stand in a long line, but also that more people will probably want to participate. That being the case, we are limiting Neal's autographs to three per person, simply so that we can keep the flow of folks meeting with him moving along. Also, please do be aware that Neal does charge an honorarium of $5 per autograph. If you wish to purchase more than three autographs from Neal you can return to the line later in the evening, or meet with Neal at this weekend's Denver Comic-Con. My final bit of news about the party is that we will have lots of free refreshments at the beginning of the party, including upwards of 1,000 free sandwiches, but I am beginning to think even that huge number will not feed the huge crowd that we are expecting. If you can, I highly encourage you to bring a sack lunch. We will have 15 banquet tables set up in the middle of the store, along with 150 chairs, so there will be plenty of room for everyone to relax and eat. Toy Area Under Construction I will close by letting those of you who have previously visited our Jason St. Mega-Store know that we have vastly expanded the store during the past two weeks, to the point where it is hardly recognizable as the same place. Even before Neal Adams signed on we knew that the dozen other creators attending our party (including James O'Barr, Barry Kitson, Dan Conner, Georges Jeanty, Jason Aaron, Jimmy Gownley and Michael Uslan) would help to make this the largest comics event that we have hosted in the 42-year history of Mile High Comics.
