Local News - X-MEN, DEADPOOL, SPIDER-MAN Collections Arrive - Auction Cancelled
Howdy!
I need to begin today's newsletter by letting you know that we have to cancel the special
toys and collectibles auction that we had scheduled for this Saturday at our
Jason St. Mega-Store.
While our
Jason store
is open for business and looks great, there is still a considerable amount of paperwork that
we have to complete as regards the insurance claim that we need to file after the huge hailstorm
that hit us a week ago Monday. As much as would prefer otherwise, I will be spending the entire
weekend inventorying water-damaged comics in the back of the
store.
Early part of the storm.
Speaking of last week's hailstorm, our waitress at
McCoy's restaurant
surprised me last evening with the photo above, taken by a friend of hers at the beginning of the
storm near the intersection of I-70/Kipling. This is the first image that I have seen of the early
part of the storm, and I think that it clearly illustrates that we were hit by more than just hail.
In case you missed my previous
newsletters,
all 70 of our store's skylights were shattered. Damage
to the retail portion of
Jason St.
was relatively minor, but a couple of very large shelves filled with expensive variants were flooded
in the back. We lost well over $100,000 in
limited edition comics,
including many issues that we published. Sigh...
Top 5 winners of the Poker Tournament.
In more positive news, last Saturday's Texas Hold'em poker tournament held at our
Jason St. store
was a wonderful success, with 60 players registered. As a result, we raised $1,831.00 in donations for the
Harvey Milk Foundation.
I sincerely thank our volunteer dealers, Rion Ringer and the members of the Royal poker club, and our
wonderful Mile High Comics staff for helping to bring this fun event to fruition. Our next poker
tournament is tentatively scheduled for June 24th.
Everyone having fun at the tournament.
I will close today's newsletter by encouraging everyone to check out the
