1,000+ Mile High Comics Variants Destroyed By Hail Storm
Howdy!
I am on a flight today returning from my brief foray to Anchorage. I visited southern Alaska
to consider purchasing a very large comic collection. Discussions are ongoing as regards that
comic transaction, but that doesn't matter to me as the trip turned out to be wonderful in any
event, as I was able to share a delightful dinner with members of the
Imperial Court of Alaska.
Madeline Holdorf, Empress IX of Alaska was my host, and she made certain that I had a wonderful
time during my visit.

While I was away from Denver (my trip was booked last week with a non-refundable ticket...) our
awesome staff at
Mile High Comics
continued the cleanup from Monday's devastating hailstorm. Sadly, our initial damage estimates of
$30,000 - $50,000 in
comics
and
books
are turning out to be too low. Will Moulton discovered yesterday
that rainwater from one of the 42 skylights that were destroyed during the storm soaked a double-sided
wooden shelving unit containing 20,000 premium back issues. We are still tallying our losses among
those 20,000 comics, but the fact that a high percentage of the water-damaged comics on those shelves
consisted of our
Mile High Comics exclusive variants,
our losses in product (alone) now exceed $100,000.00.

While having that many
comics
and
books
get damaged and destroyed by our storm is dismaying, I prefer
to focus on the positives. No one was injured by the falling shards of skylights, and the damage in most
areas of the building was relatively easy to clean up. In addition,
our online
operations are completely
functional with orders shipping like clockwork, and the
Jason St. store
will be in fine shape for tomorrow's (Saturday's) benefit
Texas Hold'em poker game
benefitting the
Harvey Milk Foundation.
I do not at all look forward to the upcoming insurance struggles, but into each life a little rain must fall...

I will close today's newsletter with a simple request for support. Word has spread nationwide about
our hail damage, and that media coverage appears to have led some of our fans to hold off on placing
orders with us, even though
our website
operations were completely unaffected by the storm. We do have a
30% off KITTYPRIDE! codeword sale in effect right now, and it applies to all ten million our
back issue comics and magazines.
Only new issues, a few variants, and our professionally graded issues are excluded. If you have a few
comics, magazines,
or
books
that you are seeking, please let us help you with your collection over this next week. Despite the storm,
Pam has made certain that our
New-In-Stock
and
Premium New-In-Stock
links are filled for you with exciting new arrivals.
Happy collecting!
