Five Day Steep Discount Trade Paperbacks and Hardbacks Sale! Howdy! After yet another road trip, I am back at my beloved farm in Colorado. My latest comics buying trip to New England ended up being particularly productive, as I ran into great comics deals at nearly every turn. That being the case, even with as much as I like the peaceful serenity of being here at our farm, I am already itching to get back out on the road. I purchased my airline ticket yesterday for the Motor City Convention, which will be happening next weekend (May 14th-16th) in Novi, Michigan. Novi is a suburb of Detroit, just a few miles north, and my past experience has been that there are some incredible bargains on back issues at that show. Additionally, one of our best suppliers has promised to bring me a fresh grouping of 400 long boxes, all in order, from which he said that I can select issues that we need to fill in holes in our website inventory. That one opportunity, alone, is enough to get me eager to go to Detroit... Nanette, Rowan, Travis, Elsbeth, Aleta, Tanith, Chuck (click on image for larger view) In case you're wondering, I actually only came home (as opposed to driving from Newark to Novi) to participate in our youngest daughter, Elsbeth's, graduation from the University of Colorado. Elsbeth has been working very, very hard for the past four years on a degree in Spanish and Portuguese, which required her spending a year abroad studying at the University of Lisbon, Portugal. Elsbeth inherited a love of languages from my wife, Nanette, who was selected for a prestigious Fulbright Scholarship during the 1960's, in order to study German Literature at the University of Vienna, Austria. All four of our girls now have undergraduate degrees, with majors in Political Science, History, English, as well as two Master's Degrees in History and Medieval Literature. Tanith will now be the only one of our daughters in school, as she still has a year to go on her Ph.D., which she is earning at the University of Glasgow. To be honest, I am sometimes so happy about the wonderful accomplishments of our children that when I really think about it, it brings tears to my eyes. Clearly, Nanette and I have been blessed by providence beyond all measure. As an aside, I am now the only one in our family without a college degree. I dropped out of the University of Colorado during my senior year of earning a degree in Finance, in order to devote my life to selling comics. Given that I was very dissatisfied with the instruction that I was receiving at the time, my decision made a great deal of sense. It really distressed me, however, when they reorganized the CU Business School just five years later from a program designed to turn out robotic middle managers for large corporations, into a school for entrepreneurs. I tried to go back, but they refused to let me return, as they said that were too many fresh applicants. If my comics career were to ever allow, I really would love to go back for those final half dozen classes. In the meantime, I suppose I can take some solace in the fact that Mile High Comics has generated enormous benefit for both our country as a whole, and our local community, by generating over $100,000,000 in comics sales over the past 30 years. Moving on to current news from Mile High Comics, I realized yesterday that it has been a couple of months since I put all of our trade paperbacks and hardbacks on steep discount sale for you. That being the case, I immediately asked Will to run the program over last night to increased our discounts on ALL of our Marvel and DC trades to a full 40%-50% off, and on all of our Dark Horse, Image, and Independent trades and hardbacks to 30%-50% off. This book sale is only through next Wednesday, at noon, however, as our books have been selling for us quite well, even without steep discounts. That's precisely why I forgot to keep my pledge to those of you who shop with us regularly to have a book sale every month. Also, in case you're forgotten some of my past newsletters, both Pam and I have scored a couple of huge private collections/libraries of books, so we have the best stock of out-of-print trade paperbacks and hardbacks available for you right now in the entire history of the company. We do charge over cover price on out-of-print editions, but the steep discounts that I'm offering you during this book sale will help to mitigate those scarcity premiums by quite a bit. The only other bit of news for today is that, as of last evening, we were down to only 20 of the GREEN LANTERN CORPS ring sets available as free premiums for placing a minimum $50 order. I just found out this morning that Wayne Winsett, who owns the wonderful Time Warp Comics in Boulder, was graciously giving us enough of the two colors that we were short on to make 10 more sets. Once these 30 remaining sets are gone (which will probably be before the end of the day on Friday...), we will be out of these ring sets. All of the other free items that we are offering as premiums are still in stock, however, so there are still some incredibly cool Bonus Book items that you can earn simply by placing an order with us, and then mentioning those items that you would like in the "Notes" section of our order form. Byron then ads those free items into your order manually, and our invoicing team makes certain that you get them included in your shipment at no charge. My final thought for today is that I am going to change our current 35% off codeword from PITTSBURGH, to DETROIT. Since the Pittsburgh convention was two weeks ago, it just seems a correct change. I overspent my comics buying budget (as I almost always do...) during my swing through New England earlier this week, so I am once again scrambling to raise a new buying budget. That's why the new DETROIT 35% off codeword is going into effect today, and will probably need to stay in effect until after the convention (please keep in mind the codeword does not apply to new comics, Dallas Stephens comics, trade paperbacks, hard covers, graphic novels, statues, or supplies). That having been said, I scored such great deals in New England that both our New In Stock and our Premium New In Stock listings for this week are chock full of really rare comics that I think that you may need for your collection. I may lose a few of those issues by offering 35% off discounts, but what the hey, if it wasn't for your continuing support, I absolutely wouldn't be able to afford to go on my buying trips. I figure that I really owe great deals to all of you as a genuine expression of thanks for your continuing support of my efforts on your behalf. In case you missed it, the way my new Bonus Book program works is pretty simple. Place your order with us as you usually would, and then ask in the "notes" section of our order form for your free item(s). If your order totals $50 (just as an example...) you would not only receive free shipping for orders being delivered in the USA, but would also be able to select either two Bonus Books from the $20 list, or one Bonus Book from the $50 list. A $125 order (which is the level at which our International buyers earn free shipping) would earn the right to select up to six items from the $20 list, or a combination of several items from the $20 and $50 list. A couple of quick terms for the giveaway program. First, we have limited supplies on a few of these items, so some will undoubtedly run out over the next couple of weeks. We do have enough for orders received this week, however, so if you order quickly all of the above giveaways should be in stock.
