New PARIS Codeword Begins Today!

Howdy!

Today's newsletter is coming to you from Amiens, France. My daughter, Aleta, and her fiancé, Wesley Walker, have been living here in Amiens for the past six months, as Wes has worked on a post-doctorate research project in organic chemistry at Amiens University. Wes's project is now finally completed, and he and Aleta are returning to Colorado, at least until Wes finds a permanent position. Before the two of them left France, however, they wanted me and my wife, Nanette, to visit them in Amiens. That being the case, I cashed in a slew of my frequent flyer miles with United, and managed to obtain free tickets for the two of us to Paris.

As the two pictures accompanying this newsletter clearly show, we had a great time in Paris yesterday, visiting all of the typical tourist spots. What made this visit most special for us, however, was having Aleta as a tour guide. Aleta speaks fluent French, and has been a visitor to Paris enough times in the past to be able to give us background information on the various sites we visited that made them much more interesting. As a case in point, while the Egyptian obelisk in the center of the Place de la Concorde (the tower behind Nanette and Aleta) is cool in and of itself, what I found especially fascinating about that spot is that it was where the guillotine was used during Reign of Terror during the French Revolution. While the area is presently dedicated as a Peace Park, a great many of the pre-revolution French nobility, including King Louis XVI, were killed in this location. Knowing this kind of background information makes visiting such a location all the more poignant.

After spending yesterday in Paris, we managed to catch the only morning train to Amiens at 8 AM. Amiens is only a one-hour train ride to the Northwest of Paris (in Picardy, on the way to the Normandy Coast...), but the French rail workers went on strike at midnight last evening, so we had to awaken at 5 AM this morning to be sure and catch the one remaining train to Amiens. Since we are still recovering from jet lag from our flight over from Denver on Monday evening, it was a real struggle to wake up so early. Once we got going, however, our ride through the French countryside more than made up for the effort. The verdant farmland leading into Amiens is incredibly picturesque, and the city itself is a fantastic amalgam of differing architectural styles, ranging from the very most modern and avant-garde, all the way back to Amiens' roots as a Roman garrison/regional market town. The Amiens cathedral is particularly impressive as viewed from the outside, and I am presuming that the inside will be equally cool when we visit it tomorrow.

While we have yet to set foot inside, one thing that I am quite certain of, however, is that the Amiens cathedral simply will not come anywhere close to matching up with the incredible Notre Dame Cathedral, in Paris. While I had already expected Notre Dame to be visually attractive on the inside, I've become pretty jaded about European cathedrals ever since I was completely blown away while visiting the stunning (and immense) York Minster a couple of years ago. What Notre Dame lacks in size and scope compared with York, however, it more than makes up in sheer architectural brilliance. I had previously seen photos of the vast gothic ceilings of Notre Dame when I took art history classes in college, but nothing prepared me for seeing the real thing. If you go to Paris, even if you find visits to most churches to be boring, I still highly recommend that you visit Notre Dame. The ceilings and exterior support abutments are just incredible to see! The stained glass windows, and the gargoyles on the outside, are pretty darn cool, too...

While I'm still going to be in France for another week, our staff at our main Denver warehouse are working steadily at building up our online offerings for you. Yet another 15,000+ back issue comics and magazines have been added into our inventory during the past week, including a nice batch of older Silver Age and Bronze Age comics that were added into New-In-Stock and Premium New-In-Stock just this morning. Some of these great older comics and magazines have their origins in the huge number of wholesale purchases that I made while I was on my comics buying trips, prior to leaving for France. Even more great comics, however, have been flooding in numerous private collections that our head buyer, Pam Brandle, has been receiving from our online buying list. It seems that we are now just about the only online comics buyers still able to pay cash for collections, so a great many comics that would have previously ended up with other comics dealers, are now coming instead to Pam! That being the case, it should be easy to understand why I say that our website selection is simply incredible for you right now, and growing even more so by the day...

While buying huge numbers of private collections is an incredibly positive development, I do want to be sure that Pam has the resources to be able to keep buying all the collections that we are offered, on an indefinite basis. To make certain that she has the cash on hand to keep buying, I am taking the unprecedented step today of initiating a new 35% off PARIS codeword sale on ALL of our back issue comics and magazines. As those of you who participated in our KANSASCITY codeword of just two weeks ago already know, our 35% off codewords are an excellent way to maximize your savings when shopping through our huge selection of back issue comics and magazines that we offer on our website. While the new 35% off PARIS codeword does not apply to trade paperbacks and hardbacks (all of our books are already discounted at 20%-50% off on our website...), and also cannot be used on new comics an/or the Dallas Stephens consignment issues, you can use the PARIS codeword to save an additional 35% on all of the rest of the 6 million+ back issue comics and magazines listed on our website. The new 35% off PARIS discount can even be used to purchase newly arrived comics listed in our New-In-Stock and Premium New-In Stock listings, as well as on all of our Golden Age, Silver Age, Bronze Age, and CGC-graded comics. Putting things in a nutshell, our new PARIS codeword sale is a fantastic opportunity for you to save a great deal on the very comics that you want the most!

Before I leave the topic of the new 35% off PARIS codeword, I did want to emphasize that this 35% off codeword will be in effect for one week, only. While I want to be certain that Pam is fully funded for her buying efforts, I am equally concerned (on the flip side of the equation...) that we do not overburden our fulfillment staff by selling too many comics, too quickly. After all, it does no one any good if we buy tens of thousands more comics via private collections, but then cannot process any of them because we are forced to shift everyone out of our sorting and grading of comics, in order to pull and ship too many PARIS codeword orders. That's why I'm going to intentionally moderate the response to the new PARIS codeword by having it end next Wednesday, at noon, Mountain Time. All other considerations aside, I figure that giving a week to those of you who read this newsletter faithfully is plenty of time in for you to pull together your next order with us. Please do not procrastinate, however, as once this codeword deadline passes, I really do have to stop giving out those very generous 35% discounts. You have just 7 days from right now to get your 35% off PARIS codeword order in to us. Have fun!

Happy Collecting!

Chuck Rozanski,
President - Mile High Comics, Inc.

Please be sure, however, to calculate whether you have earned free items AFTER first deducting all codeword discounts, Thanks!

In case you missed it, the way my new Bonus Book program works is pretty simple. Place your order with us as you usually would, and then ask in the "notes" section of our order form for your free item(s). If your order totals $50 (just as an example...) you would not only receive free shipping for orders being delivered in the USA, but would also be able to select either two Bonus Books from the $20 list, or one Bonus Book from the $50 list. A $125 order (which is the level at which our International buyers earn free shipping) would earn the right to select up to six items from the $20 list, or a combination of several items from the $20 and $50 list.

A couple of quick terms for the giveaway program. First, we have limited supplies on a few of these items, so some will undoubtedly run out over the next couple of weeks. We do have enough for orders received this week, however, so if you order quickly all of the above giveaways should be in stock. As items do eventually run out, even more cool items will be continually added to replace them. My goal is to keep this giveaway program fun, and interesting! Second, you can order multiples of the same item, if you wish. Third, you will need to manually ask for each item you've earned via the "notes" section of the order form, as we have no way to automate this program. Finally, our International patrons need to be aware that we do still need to add the small per book shipping fees to any request for books to be delivered to International destinations.
