25,000 Comics From One Private Collection!
Howdy!

A brief newsletter today, as I am leaving Orlando for London in just a few hours. I still need to pack my own suitcase, as well as palletize all of the comics that I scored during MegaCon. In addition, my good friend, Mike Kott, of
Intergalactic Trading Company
drove me over to Daytona Beach yesterday to help me purchase and load a fantastic private collection of over 25,000 comics, magazines, and books. I have to confess to you that I came to Orlando with relatively low expectations for how many comics that I would purchase, yet it has seemed that around every corner I have found great comics deals! I am really, really glad that I came to Orlando...
As another case in point about great comics deals, Mike had 30,000 comics for me to go through in his warehouse, which looked relatively ratty at first glance. They came from a long-shuttered comics warehouse in ugly old beat up boxes, with the bags being so worn that they nearly opaque. Imagine my surprise, however, when upon closer examination I discovered that the comics themselves were oftentimes early 1980's issues in NM/M condition. With titles such as
SPIDER-MAN,
HULK,
IRON MAN,
GROO,
CONAN,
X-MEN,
DAREDEVIL,
ACTION,
BATMAN,
SUPERMAN,
ALL-STAR,
GREEN LANTERN,
WONDER WOMAN, and
JUSTICE LEAGUE
predominating, I found myself selecting nearly 40% of each pallet. Going through so many long boxes comics is incredibly time-consuming, however, so I was still picking books at 9 PM both last night, and Monday evening. Then, in order to write this newsletter and still have time to pack I had to force myself awake this morning at 5:45 AM. After already being tired from the convention, I am now totally exhausted. I am going to sleep like a log on the plane to England this evening...
Speaking of England, I will be at the comics show at the
Royal National Hotel
on Sunday. I have already had one fan contact me about selling me a private collection of British Weeklies at the show, which is just great! If you live in the London area, and would like to sell us part of your collection, please contact our head buyer, Pam Brandle, at
pam@milehighcomics.com.
Pam will pass your message on to me, and will also help to arrange payment. Please bear in mind, however, that I am taking this trip to London primarily because United Airlines pulled my "Premier Executive" status from me at the end of January. The only way that I could return to that elevated flight status for the 2010 year was to fly 15,000 miles with United by April 30th.
I did the math with all the shows I am going to do in the USA, and only came up with 11,000 miles. So I tearfully cancelled my trip that I had planned for Charlotte this weekend (where they are holding a fantastic mini-con on Sunday...), and instead substituted London in order to reach the required 15,000 miles.

Before you get the wrong impression, I really do like this London show, as the dealers there bring great comics and collectibles to sell, and they are very, very friendly. But not having my "Premier Executive" status means that I can only bring back one suitcase without incurring charges.
My second case will cost me $50, and my third (if I choose to go that high) will cost me $200 (!).My suitcases are also limited to 50 lbs. each, as opposed to the 3 free 70 lb. suitcases allowed all "Premier Executives." I really do hate these games that the airlines play, but what can I do? I absolutely need to be able to bring home on the airplane 3 long boxes from most comics shows that I attend (including those in the USA), as I generally purchase that many key
Golden Age,
Silver Age, and
Bronze Age
comics from any given comics convention. As things stand right now, however, I am really, really limited in what I can carry home from London. So I will not be buying any British hardback annuals this time (even though I think that they are really cool...), and will have to be quite selective in my purchases of weeklies and British pence price editions of US comics. This means that I will also have to be very cautious in my purchases of comics from private collections, focusing primarily on items that are either very light (such as weeklies), or that have a high value as relative to weight.
Simply put, if you have a long box of USA comics to sell us from England, you'll need to ship it to us, as I just cannot carry much weight with me on the plane. But if you have light items, bring them to the show for me to look at. All other considerations aside, I love meeting the readers of this newsletter, so it would be nice if you had time to stop by and chat with me. This may well be my only stop in London for 2010...
Well, I just heard Mike get up, so it's time for me to begin packing. I'll close today's newsletter by reminding everyone to take a minute to glance through our
New-In-Stock
listings for today. Pam sends me a daily report by e-mail, telling me exactly how many comics that her inventory team has been adding into
our online inventory
from the collections that I purchase during my travels. During just the past two days her inventory team has managed to sort, grade, and enter over 10,000 of my hand-picked comics into
New-In-Stock and
Premium New-In-Stock!
The core of what they were working on yesterday were
Marvel
titles ranging in the alphabet from IRON MAN - PUNISHER. I also saw quite a few other
Marvel titles in New-In-Stock,
as well as a couple of thousand
DC's.
I'm going have Lynne put the first 50 comics from our
Premium New-In-Stock
at the end of this newsletter so that you can get just a small taste of the great comics that we are sorting right now. To get the real picture, however, you really do need to take a quick glance at all of
New-In-Stock.
I think that just one look will easily reveal to you why
our online comics
sales are simply exploding right now!
Happy Collecting!
