Huge 1960's Comics Collection
Purchased At MegaCon !

Howdy!

After three days of attending Megacon, the first major comics convention of the year, I am very energized this morning. Megacon organizer, Beth Widera, does an amazing job of keeping what has become a huge national show, running amazingly smoothly. With well over 35,000 attendees this year, Megacon is leading the way into what could be the best year, ever, for the world of comics conventions. My hat is off to Beth, and her entire family (all of whom work with her on the convention), for a job really well done!

The biggest change at Megacon this year was the vast increase in the number of comics fans, and comics costumes, represented at the convention. In past years, Megacon has been noteworthy for a small comics presence, but a vast number of young girls in Manga and Anime outfits. The Japanese regalia was fairly constant this year, but it seemed to me that the number of comics-theme costumes at least tripled over last year. Comics dealers reported a corresponding increase in sales, with almost everyone with whom I spoke reporting brisk sales. Two years ago, there was a general feeling that the comics part of Megacon might be fading away, but that theory is now a thing of the past. We're baack!

As regards my own personal participation in the convention, my biggest single deal was for $50,000 in higher grade Marvel and DC Silver Age comics. Woo woo! I will be bringing a significant number of those comics back with me on the plane tonight, so you can expect that our upcoming New-In-Stock and Premium New-In-Stock listings will be the best single day selection that we've been able to post in at least a year. Aside from that one huge collection of older comics, I also purchased about 15,000 Bronze Age and Modern Age back issue comics at Megacon, as well as a nice selection of cover variants, trade paperbacks, and hardbacks. Suffice it to say, my trip to Florida was a wonderful success.

As an aside, my hardest task over the next few days will be to decide what we should grade next, as the 90,000 back issues that I purchased in the Northeast week before last, will be arriving in our Denver warehouse today. There were also thousands of great 1945-1980 vintage comics in that shipment, so we are going to have all sorts of wonderful rare and one-of-a-kind comics to offer you over this entire month. I am really excited to be able to provide you with these great opportunities to build your collection!

On a related topic, I did want to let everyone know that I have decided to keep our 50% off SWEETHEART codeword sale on all of our back issue comics and magazines in effect for you for a week longer. With my purchasing of older comics at Megacon having been so successful, I feel that I can still let some of the best comics that we just purchased sell at half price. My entire goal in attending conventions this year, however, is to rebuild our website inventory to the point where it was before we had to absorb all of the moving costs of our new Jason St. warehouse. That being the case, I can realistically only afford to keep the 50% off codeword going long enough to cover the wholesale cost of the collections that I just purchased. So you know, our next codeword will be at the 40% off level, so your window of opportunity for selecting any of our eight million back issue comics and magazines at half price, is drawing to a close. 'Nuff said.

I'm now going to close out today's newsletter, as I do need to get our freight shipment ready over at the Intergalactic Trading Company warehouse. If you have never visited the Intergalactic website, I highly encourage you to do so, as they offer the largest selection of STAR TREK, STAR WARS, and other SF & Fantasy film and television memorabilia in the world. Intergalactic owners, Mike Kott and Sue Cornwell, have been my friends and retailing companions for over 35 years, and I truly treasure the brief moments in time that I get to spend with them each year.

Happy Collecting!
