JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA Flag Cover Variants

Regular Cover
Howdy!

I hope that the New Year has started off well for you... Here at Mile High Comics we are already planning for some fantastic improvements to the services that we provide for you, beginning with my buying at least 10,000 more great back issue comics to offer you in Dallas, this upcoming weekend. Before I leave for Texas, however, I have an unusual situation that I thought I would bring it to your attention.

To explain, DC Comics has come up with what could be the wackiest, or the smartest, comics variant promotion of all time. Their upcoming JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #1 issue is going to feature an American Flag cover, modeled after the iconic Iwo Jima Memorial statue. In addition to that primary stars and stripes cover, DC has decided to also offer 52 additional variant covers (!!!) featuring the state flags of all 50 of our individual states, plus one each for Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia. That's a total of 53 different variant covers, for one #1 issue!

New York Variant
The way that DC is marketing these covers is to simply allow retailers to order as many of each variant as they wish, and also to be able to order discounted sets of all 53 covers. Rather than making things simpler, however, this completely open ordering system really makes the job of ordering these covers exceptionally difficult for comics retailers. Do we order more of our own state flag, or more of the densely populated states, such as California and New York? Or would the very lightly populated states such as Rhode Island and North Dakota end up being the scarcest, and thus end up being in the highest demand on the secondary market?

In the end, no comics dealer with whom I have discussed this matter has been willing to take any measure of risk on this project. Most are ordering issues featuring their state only, and then a couple of complete sets. We are the sole exception to this conservative position. To explain, I firmly believe that more than a few out-of-state visitors to our retail stores are going to want to purchase a comic to take home that features their own state flag. The only way for us to obtain all the states, however, was to buy so many complete sets that a representative from DC actually called us to ask if we had maybe made a mistake, and that we maybe accidentally added a zero to our order. Suffice it to say, we are going waaay out on a financial limb to assure our having lots of copies of all 53 JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #1 issues for the future...

Greg and Mario
The main reason that I am telling you about this gamble that I am making is that you can still advance order copies of these upcoming JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #1 issues through our new comics subscription department. If you would like to obtain a stack of issues featuring your state flag, or a complete set of all 53 flags, we can still order them for you at a discounted price. Just contact Greg or Mario in our new comics subscription department, and they can help you to quickly and easily set up a free account with us. The final ordering deadline for JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #1 is next Monday, January 7th, however, so please do not delay in contacting our subscription department. You can call them (weekdays 9-5) at 303-455-2659, or by email at nice@milehighcomics.com.

So you know, our plan right now is that we are going to be offering all of the individual states via our back issue department at a flat $10 each when they are released. That having been said, it is easy to see that ordering these comics in advance will save you a lot, especially if you order a complete set...

Moving on to other news, our incredible 50% off sale on a select grouping of 300 DC Comics trade paperbacks and hardbacks will be ending on this Friday morning, at 11 AM Mountain Time. Our annual 30% off HOLIDAY codeword sale will stay in effect for you, however, through early next week. The 30% off HOLIDAY codeword applies to all of our backlist books, most of which are already on sale for you at 20% off right on our website. Multiplying those two discounts together earns you a net 44% off on all of our backlist books. Only the 300 50% off DC books, and new book releases, are excluded from this huge end-of-year books sale.

The 30% off HOLIDAY codeword sale also applies to all eight million of our back issue comics and magazines, including all of our Golden Age, Silver Age, Bronze Age, and CGC-graded comics, as well as all of our modern age Marvel, DC, Dark Horse, Image, Boom Studios, Zenoscope, IDW, Archie, Harvey, Charlton, Dell, Gold Key, Whitman comics, as well as all Warren, Heavy Metal, Starlog, Doctor Who, and other backlist magazines. Please enjoy this great sale with our sincere thanks for your support during 2012.
