Howdy! I’m just back from my visit to our local Kaiser hospital, where I had the 50+ stitches removed from my damaged left arm. It is only been 12 days since my second surgery to repair my arm after my truck accident up in Vail, Colorado, but I am already healing up very quickly. Were it not for the fact that I have to have the steel pins that are holding my wrist rigid removed in five weeks, I would already be starting rehabilitation.
Sadly, however, when the airbag in my truck exploded and smashed my forearm all to bits, it necessitated a complete rebuilding with polymer (and a large steel plate) to restore the two big bones on the forearm, the ulna and the radius. After all that rebuilding, my surgeon said that it would be at least five weeks before I could start physical therapy. My third surgery (to remove the steel pins) is now scheduled for May 31st. Until that takes place, I can do....nothing. Sigh... Once I do finally have my third operation, however, I will immediately start planning my next buying trip to California. Simply put, sales in our Jason St. Mega-Store have taken off over the past month, mostly because of all of the great merchandise that I brought back from the LA toy market during the first 90 days of this year. We are currently up by double digits over April of last year, which given the weakness of the overall economy, is pretty much of a miracle. There is just no way that I want to lose that positive momentum.
Speaking of momentum, we are on quite a roll with our Free Comic Book Day sets this year. We sold over 60% (!)of our entire stock of Free Comic Book Day sets over this past weekend, and they have continued to sell steadily today (Monday). If you do still want to avail yourself of the opportunity to pick up one of our complete sets of all 48 of this year’s Free Comic Book Day variants, I urge you to place your order with us immediately. Your cost for a set is $99.95, with all of the funds received being dedicated to helping us pay the gawdawful $175,000 in property taxes on our Jason St. Mega-Store building that will be due at the end of this summer.
While our Free Comic Book Day sets are almost gone, I do want you to know that Will Moulton didn't order a ton of singles. Most of these singles will be given out for free this Saturday, May 4th, as we typically get a couple of thousand fans coming to our store on Free Comic Book Day. Each fan will be allowed three free just for showing up, with additional singles available at four for ten dollars.
For those of you who order from us online, copies of the single issues of all of the Free Comic Book Day variants, are available for free for every $10 (net of discounts) that you spend with us through Friday evening. Look at the wonderful listing that Will and Chris Boyd put together for you at the end of this newsletter to select either from this year‘s variants, or from a few that we have left over from last year. Just place a back issues order with us, and then let us know in the "notes" section of our online order form which issues that you would like to receive (one for each $10 of your order). We will then include them in your order at absolutely no charge. The only restriction is that orders containing this year‘s Free Comic Book Day books cannot ship until Monday, May 6th. Enjoy!
My only other news note for today is a quick reminder that our 60% off FCBD! codeword sale is still in effect for you on all 10,000,000+ of our back issue comics and magazines. Only new issues, a few variants and restored comics, and our professionally graded items are exempt. If you do place a codeword order with us, please give us a couple extra days to ship, as our online fulfillment crew will be helping out in the store on May 4th.
