Angel: After the Fall (2007) #12
Plotted by Joss Whedon and Brian Lynch, written by Lynch and drawn by Stephen Mooney and Nick Runge. Turned into a vampire in the alleyway where Angel & Company made their last stand, Gunn has struggled with the irony and injustice of his curse. Now he thinks he has an answer, some meaning or reason for the loss of his soul. Gunn believes The Powers That Be have given him visions of a future in which he saves Los Angeles from the final apocalypse and receives his soul and his humanity as a reward.
In order to clear the way for this future, Gunn has to eliminate Angel, the vampire with a soul who was fated to regain his humanity after fulfilling the legendary Shanshu Prophecy. Now that Angel is no longer a vampire he falls quickly to Gunn's might and with Gwen the electric girl keeping Connor, Spike and Cordelia the Dragon busy outside no help is coming quickly. With the ghost of Wesley bearing witness, Gunn lays out his plan and prepares to drive a sword through our hero while Angel watches from a disembodied state. By his side is Cordelia, or the form of her at least, who tells Angel it just may be his time to go!
