JIMMY OLSEN (1954) #136 - Descriptive Bibliography

Plot Synopsis: Superman's Pal: Jimmy Olsen #136
The return of the Guardian! Story and art by Jack Kirby. Cover by Neal Adams. In "Begin -- the Saga of the D.N.Aliens," a giant, Hulk-like version of Jimmy Olsen uses kryptonite power to beat Superman into submission. It's up to the new Guardian (cloned from the cells of Jim Harper, the Golden Age hero of the same name) to protect the super-scientific Project from the green goliath while the Newsboy Legion looks on. Meanwhile, Darkseid has his own plans for the DNA-bending science of the Project and sets the evil scientist duo, Mokkari and Simyan, to cook up more menace.

Kirby's Fourth World (New Gods, Mister Miracle) is in the burgeoning stages here as we begin to get glimpses of the cosmic grandeur that lies ahead. Plus, there's plenty of kooky and campy Kirby dialogue with its pseudo-hippy sensibilities. Dazzling two-page splash pages intermingle with traditional four-panel construction to create a truly memorable treasure. It's no wonder Kirby's influence on comic book artistry is still being felt today.
