FANTASTIC FOUR: WORLD'S GREATEST COMIC MAGAZINE (2000) #6 - Descriptive Bibliography

Plot Synopsis: Fantastic Four: World's Greatest Comics Magazine #6
The loving tribute to Jack Kirby and Stan Lee continues as the usual gang of suspects line up to try their hand at penning the Fantastic Four as the King would. To accompany their tributes, scripters Erik Larsen and Eric Stephenson are weaving at tale from the FF's Silver Age past. FF arch-nemesis Dr. Doom has a puzzling plan that is now crystal clear: while he kept America's favorite super-family busy fighting a seemingly endless supply of nefarious robots, Doom was traveling back in time (to just after the events of Captain America #119 to be exact) to pick up the Cosmic Cube. That's where it was dropped by the Red Skull after a particularly humiliating defeat at the hands of Captain America.

What follows is a cosmic-scale battle between Doom and Uatu, the Watcher, as the Latverian tyrant seeks out the Ultimate Machine (last seen in Tales to Astonish #74, when the Leader got an Excedrin-size headache from learning too much too fast). Only Doom would have the audacity to dare this much. (Years later he'd take on the nearly omnipotent Beyonder during the Secret Wars). His brashness forces the Watcher to once again forgo his vow to not interfere with human affairs and to take a direct hand in stopping Doom.

On the side of the FF are two old allies T'Challa, the Black Panther and Norrin Radd, the Silver Surfer. It's a battle royale in the Blue Area of the Moon in an untold tale that's steeped in Marvel folklore. Look for particular keen jobs by artists Ron Frenz and Keith Giffen whose love for Kirby style is transparent and deep.
