DAREDEVIL (1964) (#1-380) (MAN WITHOUT FEAR) (MARVEL) #115 - Descriptive Bibliography

Plot Synopsis: Daredevil (1964) #115
"Death Stalks the City!" is written by Steve Gerber and drawn by Bob Brown and Vince Colletta. Cover by Gil Kane. In the mid-1970s, the Watergate break-in and cover-up fed a growing cynicism among Americans raised to trust their government. This was reflected in a shift in attitude among Marvel's super-heroes as well. Captain America shed the red, white and blue and became Nomad. In this issue, you can see the three-panel sequence in which Daredevil sheds his innocent naivete and becomes a political cynic. He's got good reason. Foggy Nelson's young sister Candace has uncovered a military project aimed at creating super-soldiers who can breathe pollution and survive germ warfare while researching a college term paper. Her digging caught the attention of the FBI who sought to arrest her and seize her research. But before the feds could get to Candace, Death-Stalker and his hired gun the Gladiator decide they take the papers to offer up to the highest bidder. The Man-Thing, himself a product of the Army project, took care of the Gladiator but now the Death-Stalker has Candace Nelson in his sights.

Luckily, DD is also watching over the Nelsons and stands in-between Death-Stalker and his intended victims. But shutting down a villain whose touch can kill and who can teleport at will is no picnic. Daredevil narrowly escapes death in one brief encounter, but manages to hold Death-Stalker off. Later, DD tracks the crook to a chemicals factory where he's testing the formula he's stolen. Somehow, the Man Without Fear has to keep this research out of the hands of nations seeking to proliferate germ warfare, and avoid dying in the process! Meanwhile, the Black Widow finds life in San Francisco isn't as sunny as the postcards would have you believe.
