Howdy!
It is cold and snowy today, but that is not such a big deal for this time of year.
Those of us who have lived here in Colorado for most of our lifetimes are well
aware of the hazards presented by winter weather, and take appropriate precautions.
That having been said, our daughter, Aleta, is flying home next Monday from where
she lives now in LA, specifically for a white Christmas. She will be delighted!
Overturned Snow Plow
Speaking of LA, the world premiere of STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS took place
there last night, and if the universally positive comments that I am reading on
social media carry over into the general populace, Disney has a huge hit on their
hands. Disney did impose a blackout on actual reviews until tomorrow morning, but
VARIETY is reporting that there were standing ovations in all the three theaters,
and that all of the celebrities who attended the premieres were gushing about how
well J.J. Abrams captured the feel of the original three films.

All of the above having been said, the Disney marketing machine has branded
Star Wars
so successfully that there is hardly a consumer product (or mass merchant) at
this point in time who does not have some sort of Star Wars tie-in. That is all well
and good, but I would mention that a few small family-owned businesses also have
licensed
Star Wars
products, including Mile High Comics. To be more specific, I agreed
to underwrite a substantial risk over a year ago, by agreeing to publish exclusive
Mile High Comics variant editions
of every single issue of the main
STAR WARS (2015)
series from Marvel, as well as
STAR WARS: PRINCESS LEIA #1-#5,
and all the installments
of the new
VADER DOWN crossover.

So you know, our gamble has paid off as our
Star Wars variants have sold extremely
well for us, despite the fact that we have resisted all entreaties from other dealers
to wholesale copies of our variants to them. By not allowing others to potentially
drive down the market by rashly liquidating copies on a whim, we guarantee that our
variants will always retain their secondary market values. If you are seeking a
unique present for the Star Wars fan in your world, we will have copies of all of
our Star Wars
variant editions available at all of our stores through Christmas.
FYI, our print runs on our
exclusive variants
never exceeded 5,000 copies, so they
rank among the scarcest Star Wars collectibles in the world. ''Nuff said.

In other news, the new comics shipment for this week was successfully delivered,
thus avoiding a snow delay. Included with this week's comics delivery was another
substantial restock shipment of new graphic novels, trade paperbacks, toys,
apparel, and other potential gift items. All of us here at
Mile High Comics hope
that you will stop by at least one of our
retail stores
over the next week to pick
up a few holiday gifts from us. We really did try to find some extra nice gift
items for you this year!
I will close today's newsletter with a quick mention that we will be hosting a
huge liquidation auction on the day after Christmas. This auction will be quite
a bit different from our usual holiday auctions, as it will consist entirely of
1,000+ individual items that we are gleaning from throughout our huge 56th Ave.
headquarters building. We have owned 56th Ave. for 29 years, and I am amazed at
just how many cool collectibles have managed during those years to be "lost" in
our labyrinthian maze of shelving. Photos will follow. Please save the date for
our Saturday, December 26th auction.
Happy collecting!
