More Free Deadpool Comics

Howdy!

The big news today is that we almost immediately blew out of all 50 copies of X-FORCE #2 that I offered as a free bonus in Monday's newsletter. I find this burst in demand amazingly ironic, as this is a comics title that was in our dollar bins as recently as last week, and was being completely ignored by the collector community. Now we cannot pull copies out of our long-term storage facility anywhere near fast enough to meet demand. This sudden shift in demand is crazy!

X-Force #2

In case you are wondering, what changed things overnight was a combination of the fact that the release of the DEADPOOL movie was announced for spring of 2016, and the fact that there was a very sudden realization among astute collectors that X-FORCE #2 is actually the second appearance of Deadpool. With his first appearance in NEW MUTANTS #98 now selling at near-astronomic levels, X-FORCE #2 was certainly long-overdue for some degree of recognition, but the speed of this change in perspective still caught us all very much by surprise.

In any event, I spoke with our head buyer, Will Moulton, late yesterday afternoon about what to do, and our discussion led us to decide to go ahead and give away another 50 copies from our long term inventory. The only change from Monday's offer is that we're bumping up the minimum order required to qualify for a free copy by $10, up to a net $50. That is still an extremely generous offer, however, especially in light of the fact that we're selling copies of X-FORCE #2 on our website really well right now at a net $25 each after our ongoing 40% off MORECOMICS! discount codeword is taken into account.

X-Force #1 Deadpool

In addition to giving away that second group of 50 copies of X-FORCE #2, we are going to add a second offer, which is for 50 free copies of X-FORCE #1 that are poly bagged with the limited edition Deadpool trading card. Demand for those have also blown up on us, which is understandable when you take into account that only about 20% of the print run of X-FORCE #1 had the Deadpool card inserted in the bag. You can request a copy of #1 with the Deadpool card free if you place any minimum $50 order with us, or you can request a copy of both #1 and #2 be included with your shipment for a minimum $75 order.

At midnight in Dallas after unloading 10,000 comics from my little Chevy rental sedan...

Moving on to other news, I had an exceptionally pleasant day here in Texas yesterday, as I drove from Dallas to San Antonio to pick up a really nice comics collection. The only hitch was that I had been told that this collection consisted of +/- 3,500 comics, when it actually turned out to be much closer to 10,000 (!) comics, magazines, and treasury editions. That change in quantity would normally have not been any sort of big deal, as I typically drive cargo vans on my buying trips, which can easily carry 30,000 comics. In this instance, however, since I thought that I was picking up only a dozen long boxes, I had rented a much more fuel-efficient Chevy mid-size sedan.

Squeezing those 16 long boxes and nearly 30 short boxes into my little rental car required two hours of repacking, and an extremely careful allocation of all the interior space. I ultimately got them all crammed into the car, but I had to drive the 250 miles back to Dallas with the last short box sitting on its end, leaning against my elbow on top of the middle storage compartment. It ended up being a 14-hour day, but given that it reminded me of how I spent darn near my entire youth, it sure was fun!

The interior of my rental car, filled to the ceiling with so many comics that I could just barely see my mirrors.

Speaking of my youth, I am going to spend some time in Friday's newsletter reminiscing about the origins of Mile High Comics. That is because next Tuesday, September 30th, marks the 40th anniversary of that momentous day in 1974 when I took the scary step of opening the very first Mile High Comics retail store. It seems a lifetime ago, yet I can remember many of the details as though it happened just last week...

Pam with more Silver Age Comics

I will close today's newsletter by encouraging you to keep an eye on our New-In-Stock and Premium New-In-Stock links every day this week, and through the weekend. Pam bought a really nice high grade Silver Age collection last week, which I followed with a massive collection of 6,500 lower-grade Silver Age and Bronze Age titles that I purchased on Friday. Yesterday's San Antonio collection adds 10,000 more variables into that mix, including a large number of key artist issues (Adams, Steranko, Wrightson, etc.), mostly in the middle grades. No matter what you collect, I will almost guarantee you that that our New-In-Stock links will have some great opportunities for you over the next few days. And just so you know, all of these older comics do totally qualify for that very beneficial 40% off MORECOMICS! Codeword discount...

Happy Collecting!
