Half Price Comics Sale Ends Monday

Howdy!

I was driving to Colorado Springs yesterday to purchase the spectacular mezzanine shelving unit that I mentioned in Wednesday's newsletter, when I suddenly received a call telling me that it was no longer available. Aarrgh! That huge shelving unit was capable of holding long boxes containing nearly two million comics, and because I purchased a brand new one just about exactly like it 12 years ago (for in our Boulder storage building...) for $27,000, I knew it was an incredible bargain at only $7,500. That's all water under the bridge for us now, however, as that wonderful opportunity for us to expand our storage capability at a bargain rate is now gone...

While I did lose out on the mezzanine unit, the proceeds of this weekend's 50% off SHELVING codeword sale (which I put into effect specifically to help pay for the mezzanine shelving) will not go to waste. For starters, we have been needing to replace one of our website servers for quite some time, as it has been functioning increasingly erratically. We can now afford to accomplish that vital goal. I also signed a contract this morning for 40 sections of more conventional rivit shelving for in our trade paperback and hardback books area, which should give us storage capacity for another 60,000 volumes. We were almost out of shelf space for books, so we're picking up this additional rivit shelving just in time.

A portion of the shelving for our 250,000 books!

Finally, one of my planned changes for dramatically reducing our cost of exhibiting at the annual San Diego Comic-Con is to purchase a used 28' box truck, and to drive it to the convention. Our trucking costs to and from the San Diego convention this past year approached $8,000, and I think that I can drop that amount to about $2,500 with the purchase of a used truck. With our planned journey to Los Angeles for Stan Lee's Comikazi convention coming up in just six weeks, it's definitely time for me to start searching online for a truck deal. The proceeds from the codeword sale will help me to afford that purchase.

All of the above having been said, I very much thank you if you are one of the many fans who rushed to place a 50% off SHELVING order with us during the last 36 hours. While I did not succeed at my original goal, being able to afford a new server, 40 sections of book shelving, and potentially a used truck, are all structural improvements that are still incredibly beneficial (and necessary) for our company's future health. I thank you sincerely for your kind support of our 50% off SHELVING sale.

Marvel 75th Ann Mag #1 Land

Moving on to other news, we have had an extremely high level of requests for that free MARVEL 75th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION magazine with the cool Greg Land cover. We currently have about 30 copies left to give away, and since Marvel gave these nice magazines to us at no charge, we are not requiring any sort of minimum order for you to receive a copy. Place any order through our website over this upcoming weekend, and you can then request a copy of the free Marvel 75th Anniversary magazine in the "notes" section of our online order form.

I will close today's newsletter by emphasizing that our 50% off SHELVING codeword will be ending promptly at noon, on Monday. With our having slashed all of our prices in half back in April, it is becoming increasingly difficult for us to cost-justify having half price sales on even our best back issues. Especially when Pam is right in the middle of adding newly-purchased runs of Silver Age Marvel comics (starting with AVENGERS and SPIDER-MAN ...) into our New-In -Stock and Premium New-In-Stock links. I did promise to keep the SHELVING codeword in effect until noon on Monday, however, and I will honor that timeframe. Our still-generous 40% off MORECOMICS! codeword will remain in effect for you, even after SHELVING ends.

Happy Collecting!
