San Diego Comic-Con News

Howdy!

The news from here at the 2015 San Diego Comic-Con is all quite positive! For the first time in at least half a decade, I am actually enjoying myself at the convention. Some of this change has to do with our restructuring of our huge Mile High Comics booth, which now contains well over 94,000 back issues. With over 80,000 different comics titles and issue numbers immediately on hand, the odds that we can fill some holes in someone's want list here at the convention are greatly enhanced. That makes me very happy...

In addition to our own booth changes, we have all been noticing a decided shift in the atmosphere of the convention. For whatever reason, the overall mood seems remarkably relaxed and pleasant. We have been debating this mood shift internally, and we do not have any one point of agreement about why this may have transpired. One theory is that just having Marvel Films pull out of here this year removed a particularly frenetic (and annoying) irritant. It is certainly the case that we do not have to put up with them giving away exclusive variants this year, which has freed up a great deal of shopping and browsing time for many fans who stood those endless Marvel Films lines last year.

Another factor that seems to be affecting the general mood here at the 2015 SDCC is a lack of crowding. In some measure this seems to be due to a spreading out of the crowds, with fewer fans clustered in the media and toy areas. This load leveling of the crowds has resulted in a much more satisfying traffic flow in the comics aisles toward the northern end of the building, which has helped the smaller dealers immeasurably. After my frequently disconcerting experiences of the past few years, the 2015 SDCC is like a breath of fresh air!

I will now defer all further comments about the convention to the several YouTube video newsletters that I have created over the last couple of days. In them, I give much better explanations of the atmosphere at this particular show, as well as some background film. Before I go, however, I do first have a couple of quick notes. First, we do still have a few copies of the DARTH VADER #7 and LANDO #1 San Diego Comic-Con variants available as free as Bonus Books. Place any $25 order with us and you can request either of these two rare variants for free, a $40 order qualifies you for both. Limit one set per person, please. Print runs on these STAR WARS two variants are limited to only 5,000 copies each.

Second, our ARCHIE #1 variant edition (limited to only 2,000 copies) featuring the "Moneybin" cover that I designed is now in stock, with copies available for sale for only $19.95 each. Artist Rich Koslowski, gave me the original to the cover as a gift earlier today. Thank you, Rich! I can't wait to get this wonderful piece of original artwork framed for in my office...

Happy collecting!

P.S. All of our Mile High Comics STAR WARS variants have been selling exceptionally well at the convention. If we continue to sell through them at our current pace, I will have no choice but to raise all of our variant prices next week. 'Nuff said...
