Local News - Poker News and Star Wars Variants and Image Comics "Pride" Variants Howdy! I just returned from another hard day of passing out food to the homeless in lower downtown Denver. Our crowds were slightly smaller at this time of the year, as many of our healthier clients elect to walk to distant soup kitchens. We still provided over 500 people (including many children and people in wheelchairs) with about 6,000 lbs of food, most of which was paid for through your donations on Free Comic Book Day. Thank you! Boy with bag of food I also had an excellent evening last night, as during our weekly Royal Poker Club tournament (held in the poker room on the 2nd floor of Jason St....), I was dealt my first-ever Royal Flush! I could not have been more thrilled. Woo! Chuck's first Royal Flush Speaking of poker, our next Texas Hold'em charity poker tournament will be held on Saturday, June 24th, starting at 11 AM. This next tournament will be a benefit to help cover the operating costs of the International Court Council, which provides governance and oversight to all 70 of our local Imperial Courts, including the Imperial Court of the Rocky Mountain Empire. Our local Courts (combined) raise several million dollars each year for their local 501-C3 charitable organizations, so keeping the ICC solvent definitely contributes to an awesomely positive cause. As has been the case with our past Texas Hold'em Poker Tournaments, we are asking everyone to sign up in advance, and are offering early registrants a $25 Mile High Comics gift certificate as a reward for doing so. I encourage anyone thinking of playing to sign up immediately, as we have a limited number of seats available. Cost is $25 to register, but as I mentioned earlier, you are immediately reimburse for this outlay via a $25 Mile High Comics gift certificate. Our tournaments typically attract about 60 players, and they are a lot of fun! WALKING DEAD #168 PRIDE COVER My only other news is a quick mention that our first two Image Comics "Pride" variants released today. The "Pride" variant of WALKING DEAD #168 is already selling for nearly double cover on eBay, so it behooves those of you living near one of our retail stores to visit us immediately. We have about 100 copies still available at cover price in our three stores, but they are selling quickly.
