Free Comics! Showgirls! Stormtroopers!
Jim Shooter! It's A Party!!!

Howdy!

I want to start off today's newsletter by confirming the rumor that we will have several of the showgirls from P.T.'s nightclub appearing in Cosplay outfits during our Free Comic Book Day celebrations this Saturday at our Jason St. Mega-Store. They have promised us that their outfits will be discrete and family-friendly, but still a whole heck of a lot of fun.

Stormtroopers

That having been said, the P.T.'s girls are but a small part of the huge party that will transpire in our Jason St. store on Free Comic Book Day, as we will also have representation by members of the two best-known STAR WARS Cosplay groups, the 501st Stormtrooper Division and the 187th Rogue Squadron. In addition, if this year's celebration follows past patterns, we will have dozens of other folks in Cosplay outfits that day. Bring your kids by Mile High Comics on Saturday for free comics, and an incredibly fun day!

Jim Shooter

Also appearing for us on Free Comic Book Day will Jim Shooter, the former editor-in-chief of Marvel Comics. Jim will be signing three free autographs for everyone who attends our party, and will sign copies above three for a nominal cost of only $2 each Jim wrote the original SECRET WARS (1984) and SECRET WARS II (1985) titles, which I can absolutely assure you that you should get signed. Jim also was the founder of Valiant Publishing, and all of his early titles for that company have been taking off in the back issue market ever since the New York Times announced that HARBINGER, BLOODSHOT, SHADOWMAN, and ARCHER & ARMSTRONG have been funded $100 million each (!) for feature upcoming movies.

Finally, everyone has been wanting to know what kinds of Free Comic Book Day discounts we would be offering to everyone this year. This was a tough call for me, as we just slashed all of our website prices on our back issue comics prices by 60% - 70% off. Going even lower than those discounts is nonsensical, at best. That is what I am going to do, however, just for 9 hours on Saturday. Here are our ridiculously generous Free Comic Book Day discounts:

50% Off - ALL BACK ISSUE COMICS

40% Off - ALL COMICS TRADE PAPERBACKS

40% Off - ALL APPAREL

40% Off - ALL TOYS

40% Off - ALL STATUES

Only new comics, a few variants, and selected items in our special Jim Shooter pavilion are excluded from these incredibly generous FCBD discounts.

Happy Collecting!

Important Free Comic Book Day News

Howdy!

I want to begin today's newsletter by thanking everyone who turned out for our benefit comics and toy auction this past Saturday for the Freedom Service Dogs organization. Thanks to those who donated baked goods and collectible items from their personal collections, we were able to raise $4,161 for this incredibly beneficial organization!

Secret Wars FCBD #0

For those of you who could not attend our auction, I have a second chance for you to support another worthy cause. This upcoming Saturday morning, May 2nd, is FREE COMIC BOOK DAY! This is one of my very favorite days of the year, as we not only make thousands of people happy by giving away tens of thousands of comics, but we also have more people visit our stores that single day, than in the entire month prior. Free Comic Book Day is fun!

With that thought in mind, I invited our new Imperial Court of the Rocky Mountain Empire reigning monarchs, Richard Brendlinger and Gabbriella But'zin to set up a special ICRME stand in our Jason St. Mega-Store that day to benefit our White Rose Scholarship Fund. They will be offering groups of 5 FCBD tickets at the booth, in exchange for only a $5 donation to White Rose. This gives everyone who shops with us a chance to receive as many FCBD editions as they wish, at nominal cost.

Divergence FCBD #1

To explain why I did this, the Board of Directors of the ICRME set up the White Rose Scholarship Fund many years ago to provide a minimum of $10,000 a year in scholarships to deserving students in our community. Each new reign (we just began Reign XLII) has the responsibility to raise those White Rose funds, and hopefully a bit more for the permanent endowment. Scholarship applications are then taken in the fall, and the awards are announced in the first week in April. These awards are all need-based grants that require no repayment. Grants are open to anyone in the community, so my personal goal is to have some of our Mile High Comics customers and staff apply for the grants that will be given out next year. Application details will be posted in this newsletter in the fall.

Worlds of Aspen FCBD #1

As regards how our overall Free Comic Book Day events are going to transpire, our basic premise is that you (or any member of your family) can receive three of the FCBD editions at each of our four retail locations for no more effort than just walking in our door. Upon your arrival you will receive those initial three tickets, which are then redeemable for any of the 51 different 2015 FCBD Editions. In addition, for every $5 you spend in our stores this week, you will receive another FCBD ticket.

If that still does not get you all of the FCBD editions that you are seeking, you can then start making donations to the White Rose Fund, and receive as many tickets as you want. There will a separate ICRME/White Rose booth set up in Jason St., but the White Rose donation program will also be in effect at our other three stores. Just let our staff member who is manning the sales counter know that you would like to make a White Rose donation, and they will get you more tickets.

Sonic the Hedgehog/Mega Man: Worlds Unite FCBD #1

All of the above having been said, I strongly urge everyone to try and get to our stores as early as possible on Saturday. We will open each of our stores at 8 AM (!!!). In addition. Our Jason St. Mega-Store will reopen at 11:30 on Friday evening for those of you who would like to get a jump on this year's FCBD giveaway. Former Marvel Comics Editor-In-Chief, Jim Shooter, will be in attendance that evening, and will be signing as many comics as you bring with you, or purchase from us. Please be advised, however, that only your first three comics can be signed for free. Additional autographs will cost you $2 each, with $1 going as a donation to White Rose, and the other dollar going to Jim to offset his travel costs. you can, however, have Jim sign three comics during the midnight party, and then come back the next day for three more free autographs.

Jim Shooter

For those of you who would like to chat with Jim Shooter, he will be at the Jason St. Mega-Store all day on Saturday, from 9 AM - 5 PM. He will, however, need to take a break between 1:00 - 2:30 PM, as he is giving a youth workshop on writing for comics. If you know a young person who might wish to attend this seminar, there are about ten seats remaining. The flyer is posted for everyone at the end of this newsletter...

As a side note, I strongly urge those of you who own the individual SECRET WARS (1984) and SECRET WARS II (1985) series to bring them all in for Jim to sign for you. Jim conceived and wrote both those series, and with SECRET WARS (2015) about to change the entire Marvel Universe forever, I think it absolutely behooves you to have Jim sign as many SECRET WARS comics for you as you possible can!

Finally, I want everyone to be aware that, if things go as in past years, there are going to be some of the 51 Free Comic Book Day editions where our supplies will be completely exhausted by late morning on Saturday. We ordered 10,000 more (!) copies of the FCBD editions this year than last, but it always works out that me misgauge the demand on a few titles, and they just blow out. If you want to build a complete FCBD set, or have your heart set on a specific issue, please be sure and arrive as early in the day as you can on Saturday. Other comics stores in the region will stock at least a few of the more popular FCBD titles for 2015, but for a full selection of all 51, I highly recommend visiting us as early in the day as you can on Saturday.
