LOCAL NEWS - VOTE MARCH 19TH FOR $50 IN FREE COMICS!
Howdy!
I want to begin today's newsletter by letting you know that our contract to sell our
56th ave. headquarters building has now passed it's critical "inspections" deadline.
Presuming nothing goes wrong between now and our scheduled closing on April 4th, we
are committed to turning over 56th to our buyer on April 22nd. Our commitment to move
6 million comics
(and all our offices...) over to our
Jason St.
building has suddenly
become very, very real!
For those of you who keep track of such things, you may have noticed that our closing
date on our building sale has been moved forward by 18 days. I asked for that extension
because I am in the final 30 days of my reign as Prince Royale of the
Imperial Court of the Rocky Mountain Empire.
While my one-year tenure in the #2 male leadership position of this wonderful charitable
organization has already been quite busy, it turns out that the last month of a Prince's
reign consists of a blur of almost daily performances and commitments. These all culminate
in my relinquishing my role at the annual Prince and Princess Ball, which will be held on
Friday , March 25th. All other considerations aside, there was just no way that I could
keep the deadline for us to be out of 56th at only one week after PR Ball.
Another effort that is taking up a huge amount of my time the days is my working to help
our good friend, Norrie Reynolds, achieve her goal of being elected Empress of the
ICRME.
As many of you are already aware, Norrie has worked as a volunteer for
Mile High Comics
during dozens of auctions, poker games, autograph signings, and
Free Comic Book Day celebrations. She also helped to run registers for us numerous times
at
San Diego Comic-Con,
Wizard World Austin,
Stan Lee's ComiKazi,
and at the
Denver Comic Con.
Norrie is working these days to pack up the 8,000+ pieces of my Pueblo
pottery that are on display in our 56th headquarters building, as she is the one person
that I unequivocally trust to safely handle my entire collection of rare artifacts.
Norrie on the evening she was crowned as Grand Duchess 40
In addition to helping us here at
Mile High Comics,
Norrie has also been a leader for the
last eight years in raising funds for charity through the
ICRME.
She has served as
Imperial Court
Baroness twice, and most recently was on the female line as Grand Duchess during Reign 40.
She performed her roles so successfully that a group of past ICRME Emperors and Empresses
urged her last spring to submit her application to be next year's Empress 43. After giving
all the work involved a great deal of thought, Norrie ultimately agreed to run for Empress,
declaring her candidacy last May.
Norrie with Lou Ferrigno
To inject drama into what might be an otherwise mundane tale, until November, Norrie was
running unopposed. Late that month, however, another long time member of the
ICRME
made the
decision to jump into the race against Norrie, just five weeks before the applications
deadline. This person has run for Empress many times previously and was soundly rejected each
time. In this instance, however, she was encouraged to run against Norrie by yet another group
of past ICRME Emperors and Empresses, and they promised her unprecedented support, including
backing from the leader of the powerful LGBT faction of the Colorado Democratic Party.
Overnight, Norrie went from being a shoo-in as Empress 43, to being the underdog.
All of the above having been said, I am going all-out to help Norrie win this year's ICRME
election. We are facing an uphill battle however, as the last time that the Colorado Democratic
Party became involved in an ICRME election, they delivered over 200 votes! for the winning
Empress. Clearly, a small group of dedicated people going up against a political machine this
powerful is an almost impossible task.
Norrie Performing for Charity
In the end, our one hope for Norrie's success is the fact that it is a long-standing tradition
in ICRME
elections for candidates to offer generous inducements to non-members to vote. In a
nutshell, that tradition is what has allowed me the latitude to put together the package of
extremely generous rewards for voting listed at the end of this newsletter. While the odds may
be against us, I think that offering anyone from our Mile High Comics community who takes the
time to vote for Norrie a $50 store credit coupon might just inspire the 200 votes that we need.
I will close by asking you to please consider taking the time on March 19th to vote for
Norrie Reynolds for Empress 43 of the
Imperial Court of the Rocky Mountain Empire.
Not only will
you personally benefit for taking just a few moments of your time to vote, but you will also be
helping someone very deserving to conclude her lifetime of commitment to the needs of others
with an accolade that she sincerely deserves. I will guarantee you that Norrie would be very
grateful to receive your help.
Happy Collecting!

P.S. Since the only requirements to vote in
ICRME
elections is that you be over 16 and have a
Colorado I.D. that proves that you live north of Castle Rock, we encourage everyone to bring
friends and family members to the polls to vote for Norrie. Everyone who votes can choose to
receive either the $50 in store credit, or a complete set of this year's Free Comic Book Day
variants!
