Huge New Back Issue Comics Display at Jason Street
Howdy!
Today's newsletter is being written in a cargo van parked on a desolate side street in downtown Newark, New Jersey. I am waiting here for a phone call from my East Coast assistant, Ashely Imbese, who is flying here to meet me on a flight from her new home, in San Francisco. She should be calling me in about an hour, at which point I will then run back over to Newark airport to pick her up.
In case you are wondering, Ashley frequently travels with me on my comics buying and down the I-95 corridor, and the two of us make a great buying team. In point of fact, Ashley helped me to close some of our biggest back issue comics deals, ever, including the high grade complete Marvel collection, the revenues from which helped us to cover the down payment on our Jason St. Mega-Store. Ashley also has a career as a licensed masseuse, however, so we have not been able to work together since last year's San Diego Comic-Con. I am really looking forward to seeing her again!
Moving on to comics news, our first buying opportunity arrives this evening, as one of our most reliable wholesale comics suppliers has a single-owner collection of over 30,000 back issues for us to look through. If all goes well, we will be loading those 100 long boxes into our van this evening, and then immediately hauling them out to our warehouse space on Long Island. A second collection of yet another 100 long boxes is then set to be delivered to us at our warehouse, at 5 PM tomorrow. Even by our prodigious standards, purchasing over 60,000 back issue comics in under 24 hours, will set a new record....
What makes this all applicable to our Denver retail operations is that Ashley and I will be spending all day on Saturday sorting through these two huge collections to pick out only the choicest issues. Those particularly scarce comics will then be immediately shipped back to Denver on Monday, by two-day FedEx. All other considerations aside, our #1 goal on this trip will be to send a continuous stream of great back issue comics to Denver, and most especially to
our Jason St. Mega-Store.

New Arrials Area at Jason St. Mega-Store
|
That goal of sending back lots of great comics is most important because Jon and Randy are setting up a special "New Arrivals" area for you by the front counter of the Mega-Store, which will highlight all of the great back issues that we have added into the Mega-Store inventory during the previous week. That "New Arrivals" area is essentially going to be a constantly rotating "pick of the litter" sale, with thousands of newly arrived back issues being added for you to look through each week. This will include not only my purchases on buying trips and at conventions, but also the thousands of scarce comics being purchased each week via our website by our head online buyer, Pam Brandle.
While we are starting this special new display area off this weekend (!) with several thousand of the better comics from my Dallas and Indianapolis deals, we will be adding the first of the comics from our New York purchases into the Mega-Store inventory toward the end of next week. From that point forward, further additions will depend mostly on how many great issues Ashley and I can purchase here on the East Coast.
Since we are going to be buying comics non-stop for the next 14 days, however, I think that you can count on the fact that Jon and Randy at Jason St. will have excellent deals for you on scarce back issue comics!
At this point I have a question for you. One potential deal that I am being offered involves over 1,000 (!) long boxes, which would fill an entire tractor-trailer. Even at wholesale, that is a huge expense. That having been said, what I am contemplating is a special sale where we would lay out on our bargain tables all 1,000 of those boxes of unsorted comics, but at a $2 price per book, instead of $1.
The same volume discounts would apply, but instead of 40 comics for $30, it would be 40 for $60. Does this sound at all interesting to you? If so, we could potentially ship back this huge collection in a couple of weeks. Suffice it to say I think that this would make for one incredible weekend comics sale! Please let Jon and Randy at Jason St. know if you would like to participate in this special $2 sale. I think it might be fun...
I will close today's newsletter with news of two special Magic The Gathering pre-release tournaments that we will be hosting at our stores this weekend. Here are the details:
