Chuck Visits New York - More Great Back Issues Arrive!
Howdy!
Today's newsletter is being written on a return flight to Denver from New York's LaGuardia
airport. I was visiting the
Imperial Court of New York
in my current role as the reigning Imperial Crown Prince of the Americas for the
International Court System.
Last evening was their annual holiday party, which is intentionally staged each year well after
the holidays are over, so that everyone has first had a chance to recover from their personal
endeavors. Upon reflection, waiting until late in January is actually quite a good idea, as
the turnout for the party was exceptionally robust, despite the bitter cold temperatures that
hit the New York area on Sunday.
Chuck with Harrington (Henry Bastos-Wood) ICNY Emperor XXVI and
As regards the party itself, it is an opportunity for the members of the
New York Imperial Court
to dress up and totally bling themselves out, just for each other. I cannot even begin to describe
how much fun that we all had chatting, nibbling on a delicious buffet dinner, and taking hundreds
of awesome pictures. Sadly, I could only spare 36 hours from my crazy busy schedule for this trip,
but it was definitely worth my time. It was also great that my trip was accomplished almost at no
cost, as I mostly used miles from my personal United Airlines account for my ticket, and stayed
at the beautiful Long Island home of Emperor Henry Bastos-Wood, and his wonderful husband,
Prince Bill Bastos. I did chip in a tank of gas for our drive into Manhattan, but that was a minor
expenditure given the great fun that we had.
In case you are wondering, I am mentioning this ICNY party in my comics newsletter because I am
about to change my gender role in the
International Court
from Charles, The Imperial Crown Prince of the Americas, to Bettie Pages, The Imperial Crown Princess
of the Americas. This switch will have very little impact on my business life, as I will only be
appearing as Bettie at
Mile High Comics
on those rare occasions when we are hosting an official International Court System function. The
rest of the time, I will just be the same old familiar Chuck Rozanski who has avidly provided
millions of great comics to fans all around the world for the past 49 years. No big deal.
Chuck with ICNY Empress XXX Sugar Be Real (2 years ago) and Imperial Crown Princess Royale Chuleta Devine (next year’s Empress)
That having been said, while my work life will remain essentially the same, the fact does remain
that I will now be attending all of our numerous
ICS
functions when I visit our 70 member cities
all around the United States, Canada, and Mexico wearing Bettie's Imperial crystal tiara and her
beaded gowns. This will inevitably lead to vastly more photos of Bettie appearing in social media.
Rather than in any way attempting to limit this exposure, I am instead publicly embracing it well
in advance. Being Bettie truly makes my heart happy, so it is time. This change will begin with my
official Imperial investiture by the Queen Mother of the Americas Nicole the Great at the Imperial
Court de San Diego Coronation on Saturday night, February 9th, at
the Handlery Hotel.
If you have
an interest in attending this cool ceremony, please visit the
Imperial Court de San Diego website
for tickets. I would be honored to have you attend.
Past Empresses and Emperors of the New York Imperial Court
In other news, before I flew to New York on Saturday afternoon I first conducted a fun no-minimum-bid
comics and toys auction at
Mile High Comics,
as well as helping Bobb Ringer and our volunteer dealers from the Royal Poker Club stage our monthly
benefit Texas Hold'em Poker Tournament. We had a record 87 players in this month's tournament, which
helped to propel our net donation to this month's beneficiary,
The Matthew Shepard Foundation,
to $3,514.00! I sincerely thank everyone who supported our auction, and also our poker tournament.
You are awesome!
On a related note, there will be no comics auction in February, as Bettie is committed to attend
Seattle's Coronation
on the night of February 16th. Bobb Ringer and Will Moulton have kindly offered to cover for me as
regards the poker tournament, however, so that fun event will begin on the morning of February 16th,
at 11 AM. Please be sure and register in advance if you would like to play in our tournament, as we
had a (short) waiting list this time, which may grow longer as word about our exceptionally competitive
tournament continues to spread. We are also seeking more qualified dealers, so if you think you could
help us, please contact me at chuckrozanski@gmail.com, and I will pass you on to Bobb. If we have the
dealers to run them, I will invest in more poker tables and regulation clay chips...
As regards actual comic book retailing, Lynne continues to work down the last remnants of our order backlog
that originated last month. We would have been completely caught up by now, but our online sales have
been surprisingly strong this month, which means that she has quite a few newly-arrived orders to fill.
I attribute this surge in our sales to a remarkable increase in the popularity of collecting older comics
that has seemingly manifested out of nowhere during the past few months.
Back issue comics
sales in our
Jason St. Mega-Store
are also going a little bit wild, as some particularly scarce back issue comics are now blowing out almost
instantly upon arrival. After a few years in the doldrums, being a comic book dealer is fun again!
I will close with a quick mention that we are still actively seeking private collections of comics, books,
statues, and toys. Pam already has a couple very large back issue collections that are being sent in to us
by mail, while Will and Lisa are sometimes buying as many as 6-8 collections in a single day at
Jason St.
The hard part for us right now is trying to get all of these great new arrivals sorted and graded, while
simultaneously shipping orders that we receive as quickly as possible. It goes without saying that our crack
team of 20 experienced staff members here at
Mile High Comics
are working all-out these days to serve you in
every way that they can. All of us thank you ever so much for your kindness, and for all of your support.
Happy collecting!

President - Mile High Comics, Inc.
