Plot Synopsis: Sub-Mariner (1968) #10
"Never Bother a Barricuda" is written by Roy Thomas and drawn by Gene Colan and Dan Adkins. The serpentine Helmet of the Ancients lends its wearer immortality and the power to control others' thoughts. Namor has wrested it from the madman who called himself Destiny but now finds another seeks its power. Karthon, the Quester, is a giant warrior of lost Lemuria who savagely attacks the Sub-Mariner in an attempt to steal the mystic object. While they battle, Karthon relays the Helmet's origins. Forged by alchemists in ancient times, the Helmet (or Crown) was meant for Naga, a despot who ruled over the Lemurians, scaly-skinned distant cousins of the Atlanteans. Naga used its power to live on through the eons and to lord over his people. But his tyranny bred discontent, and thieves stole the Crown and hid it in Earth's polar reaches where Destiny found it.

As Karthon seeks to return it to his master Naga, both he and Namor and swept up in an electrified net cast from a futuristic submarine. They wake in chains; captives of the super-scientific pirate Cap'n Barracuda (last seen in Strange Tales #120). Realizing that the Crown is a treasure worth many fortunes but unable to pry its origin from either Namor or Karthon, Barracuda plans to kill them both. But before his murderous first mate Mr. Starkey can carry out that order, Barracuda's true objective comes into view. A long-range bomber carrying an experimental nuclear device which is promptly brought down by Barracuda's deck cannon. Soon, the pirate has outfitted a torpedo with the atomic detonator retrieved from the plane and fired it at a U.S. Navy base as part of an elaborate extortion scheme. Namor must choose to stop the torpedo or Karthon, who has broken free and now takes the serpentine crown to Naga.
