Plot Synopsis: Fantastic Four (1961) #29
"It Started on Yancy Street!" is written by Stan Lee with art by Jack Kirby and Chic Stone. Guest-starring the Watcher. The Fantastic Four is known and loved by fans throughout the world for their marvelous exploits and adventures in defense of mankind. Loved by all, that is, except the hard characters who live on Yancy Street. Writer Lee imagined a fictional section of New York peopled by cynical and sometimes cruel practical jokers who really had in for the FF. Why was never really ever explained. The Thing, in particular, seemed to the butt of a lot of their jokes. Most times, artist Kirby never showed the faces of these Manhattan miscreants, which made their pedantic dislike of our heroes all the more frustrating. Our story begins as the title suggests on that legendary block when the FF find themselves once again targets for the Yancy Streeters. As puzzled as we are, our heroes wonder if one of their old foes is behind this gang.

Later, it seems their suspicions are correct as a booby-trapped package arrives for the Thing from the Yancy Street thugs. An accompanying note challenges the FF to return to the street to duke it out, once and for all. But instead of a group of derby-wearing toughs, the Fantastic Four find the Red Ghost and his Super-Apes. The Communist scientist and his amazing simians use their own cosmic ray-borne powers to get a quick upper hand on the FF. Trapping them in a space capsule, the Red Ghost then seeks to strand them on the airless Moon. But the fighting spirit of the FF won't allow them to accept their fate and soon they've made their way to the Watcher's home in the mysterious Blue Area (later the home of the Inhumans). Using technology they borrow from the Watcher, the FF turn the tables on the Red Ghost and return to Earth. But Yancy Street remains an unfriendly place!
