Plot Synopsis: Daredevil (1964) #50
"If In Battle, I Fall" is written by Stan Lee and drawn by Barry Smith and Johnny Craig. Many Silver Age and Bronze Age artists who went on to become unique talents in their own right had a Kirby Period, in which their work was greatly influenced by the style of the legendary Jack "The King" Kirby. Steranko and Keith Giffen, to name just two, each had their Kirbyesque days. Here, Smith (later known for his ground-breaking work on Conan the Barbarian) does his best to imitate Kirby's dynamic style (although at times his figure perspective is a bit off, forcing writer Stan Lee to explain that DD's android foe can change size).

Imprisoned gang-leader Biggie Benson reached out from his jail cell to scientist Starr Saxon to create a foe built specifically to hunt down and destroy Daredevil. We pick up our story with Daredevil in pitched battle with the seemingly indestructible android who can ramp up his power to overcome his foes. Attacking our hero in his own gym, the monstrous killer seems to be as fast or faster than DD and at least three times as strong. But some quick thinking on the part of DD causes the android to short-circuit and temporarily forget who his target is. When the android returns to Saxon's lab for re-programming, the scientist accidently sends him back out again after Benson instead of DD. Now the Man Without Fear has to risk his life to keep his enemy alive.
