Plot Synopsis: Crypt of Shadows #17
More fright-filled tales of terror from the musty vaults of the House of Ideas. First, get closely acquainted with "The Menace of Shandu!" in a tale drawn by Don Heck and first presented in Strange Tales #83. Teenager Tommy Jones rues the day he ever wandered into a used book store and picked up a tome containing a spell for summoning a genie. Tommy thought it would be hoot to recite the ancient incantation but he stopped laughing when a 20-foot-tall monster named Shandu answered his call. This genie came with murder on its mind but before Tommy met his doom, he would be granted one wish. What would you wish for? Then, in "My Brother Harry" (originally presented in Strange Tales #5), Phil is an abusive man who beats his wife and his crippled sibling. Phil's brother can see and talk to dead people. But, that's cold comfort to Phil after he drinks some of his wife's poisoned tea.

Then, in a story first presented in Astonishing Tales #57, a miserly old man discovers a doorway to a strange part of town in the basement of his very own house. There, he meets and befriends a young man who shares his love of money. But the old man can't help but give in to the temptation to rob the younger man of his life's savings while he sleeps. Chased by the police, the old man has to burn the money to get rid of the evidence. But when he returns to his house, he finds his own stash of money was the currency torched in the fire. Was there a portal to the past "In the Furnace!"? Finally, in another story from the same comic, a ne'er-do-well drifter gets a chance to save the planet from invasion by helping a mysterious blue giant. Don't miss "They Lurk in the Cave!"
