Plot Synopsis: Black Panther (2005) #1
Premiere issue. Guest-starring Captain America. "Who is the Black Panther?" Part One is written by Hollywood screenwriter Reginald Hudlin and drawn by John Romita Jr. and Klaus Janson. Marvel's African Avenger gets a complete reboot with fresh new energy and ideas. In Hudlin's relaunch, the Black Panther isn't well known to the outside world, he's not an Avenger and whether or not he's a hero is still up in the air. What is known is that Wakanda, the ancestral home of the legendary fighter, has for centuries been a mysterious island unto itself on the African continent. The only nation to have never been successfully invaded or explored, Wakanda maintains its aloofness with a dazzling array of technological defenses and a wealthy, self-sustaining economy.

Even in the 5th Century A.D., nearby tribes jealous of Wakanda's riches found they couldn't breach its borders. Overwhelmingly superior weapons threw them back, bloody and broken. Later, in the 19th Century, as the White Man ravaged country after country, Wakanda repelled all attempts at colonization. It was during this time that Western civilization first caught a glimpse of the leader of the Wakandan people; the Black Panther spirit. Even during World War II, when Captain America was sent in to the central Africa region to ferret out Nazis seeking to learn Wakanda's technological secrets, the Black Panther defeated him; the best the U.S. military could muster. But now, the military-industrial complex of the U.S. is ready to try again to exploit Wakanda's resources. And the man they've chosen to head their mission is known only as the Klaw!
