BATMAN AND ROBIN (2009) (#1-26) #17 VARIANT - Descriptive Bibliography

Plot Synopsis: Batman and Robin (2009) #17
Origin and first appearance of the Absence. “The Sum of Her Parts” part one of three is written by Paul Cornell and drawn by Scott McDaniel and Rob Hunter. Cornell takes up the writing chores from Grant Morrison and does his best to fill those shoes with a nail-biter of a story about a woman from Bruce Wayne’s past that comes back to haunt Dick Grayson and Damian Wayne quite literally. Una Nemo was one of those “arm candy” girls that Bruce Wayne used to bolster his billionaire playboy image but she was shot through the head by pirates while on a luxury cruise one evening.

Now her body has been dug up and is missing. Commissioner Gordon calls in the Dynamic Duo to take on the case but before long a body shows up on the front steps of Gotham City Police headquarters. But is it Nemo’s? Batman has his doubts and when the corpse explodes with massive force in the city morgue, it’s clear it was a booby-trapped red herring. Clues lead our heroes to a bizarre wedding at St. Peter’s and to another trap laid by Nemo herself, now a bizarre villainous known as the Absence! Also, don’t miss a sneak peek at Detective Comics #871 (by writer Scott Snyder and artist Jock).
